Solamargine is a steroid alkaloid isolated from Solanobasine. Solamargine can interact with the amino acids Phe8, Pro9, Ile152, Tyr154, Pro293, Phe294, Val297 and Arg298 of the C3-like protease (SARS-CoV-2 main protease). It comes from the fruit of SolanumnigrumL. Solamargine has the effect of dispersing stasis and reducing swelling, pain relief and poison withdrawal. Solamargine, a derivative of the steroid Solasodine derived from the Nightshade plant, has been shown to have anticancer activity in a variety of cancers. Solamargine induces non-selective cytotoxicity and P-gp inhibition. Solamargine significantly inhibits the migration and invasion of HepG2 cells by down-regulation of the expression and activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9.
