功能和主治：

1.利尿作用：苦参煎剂:含之苦参碱给兔口服注射，皆可产生利尿作用，尿量增加前既有盐分排出之增多。但实验中所用家兔之数目较少，又未叙述饮水控制之情况，因而有人认为需进一步研究；　
2.抗病原体作用：煎剂在试管中，高浓度(1：100)对结核杆菌有抑制作用。煎剂(8%)，水煎剂在体外对某些常见的皮肤真菌有不同程度的抑制作用；
3.其他作用：苦参碱注射于家兔，发现中枢神经麻痹现象，同生痉挛，终由呼吸停止而死。注射于青蛙，初呈兴奋，继则麻痹，呼吸变为缓慢而不规则，最后发生痉挛，以致呼吸停止而死；其痉挛的发作，恐系起因于脊髓反射。对家兔的最小致死量为0.4克/公斤。
