What is brivaracetam used to treat?

Brivaracetam is an anticonvulsant prescription drug used to treat partial seizures that works by binding to synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) in the brain. It is used in two ways: (1) alone or with other seizure medications in children with focal (partial) seizures 1 month and older. (2) Brivaracetam Injection is approved only for adults 16 years of age and older for the treatment of focal (partial) seizures. It is not known if brivasitam is safe and effective in children younger than 1 month of age.

Brivastigmine may cause common side effects such as constipation, nausea, vomiting extreme tiredness or low energy. More serious side effects may include swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips and eyes, difficulty swallowing or breathing; hoarseness, hallucinations (seeing things or hearing sounds that are not there) delusions (strange thoughts or beliefs that have no basis in reality) and other symptoms. Side effects in children aged 1 month to under 16 years are similar to those in adults.
