Description
Trimethylaluminum is used as an intermediate in the production of methylaluminoxane. It is employed as a methylating agent in synthetic chemistry. It is also used in semiconductor fabrication to deposit thin film. It is involved in Tebbe's reagent, which is used for the methylenation of esters and ketones. It acts as an activator for Ziegler-Natta catalysts for olefin polymerization. It plays an important role in the Oppenauer oxidation reaction to prepare aldehydes and ketones.
