Menthyl acetate may be used in the preparation of 3-amino-2-hydroxyalkanoates via lithium amide-supported Mannich-type reaction of its lithium enolate with PMP-arylaldimines (PMP=p-methoxyphenyl) followed byin situoxidation with oxaziridine.
