General procedure for the synthesis of dibromides:

General procedure: To a solution of olefin (2 mmol) in CH3CN (10 mL) were added NH4Br (4.4 mmol) and Oxone (2.2 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at reflux temperature for the time shown in Table 2. After completion (as indicated by TLC), the reaction mixture was filtered and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure. The products were purified by column chromatography (Hexane/EtOAc, 98:2) over silica gel.
