Steps:

160 grams of bromine was added into a 400 ml Hastelloy shaker tube. The tube was then chilled in a dry ice/acetone bath for about 15 minutes and evacuated. The tube was then heated to 100 °C while shaking, and 150 grams of HFP was added at a rate of 1 ml per minute. After adding all the HFP, the tube was maintained at 100 °C for an additional 9 hours. The tube was then chilled in wet ice and the product mixture (309.53 grams) was collected. The mixture was washed twice with 50 ml of 10% aqueous sodium sulfite. The organic layer was dried with 3 A molecular sieves and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (gc/ms). Analysis show 99.41% yield of the desired product.
