Steps:

Catechol and urotropine were refluxed at 80 °C for 5 hours under the condition of trifluoroacetic acid, and the reaction was completed by TLC detection. Dichloromethane and glacial acetic acid (150:1) were used as eluents to pass through silica gel chromatography column to separate. 4,5-dihydroxyisophthalaldehyde was obtained with a yield of 50%.
