6324-18-1

1-(2-Phenylethyl)pyridiniumbromide synthesis

2synthesis methods
-

Yield:6324-18-1 98%

Reaction Conditions:

in para-xylene at 155 - 160; for 2 h;

Steps:

1-Phenethyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (6c).

The pyridinium salt 1-(2-phenylethylpyridinium bromide) was synthesized according to an established protocol.2 A mixture of pyridine (4.83 g, 61 mmol) and 1-(2-bromoethyl)benzene (11.1 g, 60 mmmol) in p-xylene (18 mL) was stirred and heated to 155-160 °C for 2h. After cooling, the solidified mass was crushed, filtered and washed with MTBE. The dried pyridinium salt (15.5 g, 98%) was dissolved in EtOH (80 mL) and partially reduced following the representative procedure for 6a, by using NaBH4 (4.1 g, 108 mmol) to provide 6c [6.87 g, 62%, calculated to 1-(2-bromoethyl)benzene], as a colourless oil.
