P.19 Preparation of Benzlamine Derivative

This 3-fluoro-4-methoxyacetophenone in the amount of 29 grams (172 millimoles) was mixed with 34.8 grams (552 millimoles) of ammonium formate and then stirred at 180° C. for 5 hours. Thereafter the same procedure as in preparation example 1 was performed to yield a free oil layer. This oil layer was separated and subjected to vacuum distillation under conditions of 89°-91° C. and 1 millimeter mercury (mm Hg) to yield 19.9 grams (118 millimoles) of a benzylamine derivative, 3-fluoro-4-methoxy-α-methylbenzylamine (yield, 69%).
