3-Methoxythiophene (2.23 g, 19.56 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (40 mL) and acetyl chloride (3.07 g, 39.12 mmol) and aluminum trichloride (3.12 g, 23.47 mmol) were added at 0°C. The mixture was stirred at 0°C for 1 hour and then at room temperature for 2 hours. Quenched with 2N hydrochloric acid (100 mL), the organic phase was extracted, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentrated, and the residue (3.0 g) was directly used for the next reaction
