A solution of ethyl 5-amino-l-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-lH-pyrazole-4- carboxylate (0.9 g, 3 mmol) in dioxane (20 mL) saturated with HCl was heated to 150 0C for 5 hours in a sealed tube. The reaction mixture was then cooled and concentrated in vacuo. The residue diluted with water, and the aqueous solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 x 50 mL). The combined organic extracts was dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated. The resultant residue was purified by flash column chromatography (5 : 1 ethyl acetate / petroleum ether) to afford product (430 mg, 63 %). MS (ESI) m/z :228.1
