Reaction Conditions:

with potassium hydroxide in ethanol at 20; for 24 h;

Steps:

4.2.3 Alkaline hydrolysis

General procedure: To a solution of ethyl ester (2mmol) in ethanol was added 1M KOH (4mL) and the mixture stirred for 24h at room temperature. Upon completion of the reaction which was monitored by TLC, the ethanol was evaporated from the mixture and the remaining water phase acidified with 1M HCl to pH ~3. The obtained precipitate was filtered off and dried at 75°C in an oven to afford compounds.
