P.7 Preparation of Benzylamine Derivative

This 3-methyl-4-methoxypropiophenone in the amount of 31.4 grams (176 millimoles) was mixed with 35.4 grams (562 millimoles) of ammonium formate and then stirred at 180° C. for 5 hours. Thereafter the same procedure as in preparation example 1 was performed to yield a free oil layer. This oil layer was separated and subjected to vacuum distillation to yield 12.6 grams (70.4 millimoles) of a benzylamine derivative, 3-methyl-4-methoxy-α-ethylbenzylamine (yield, 40%).
