A solution of triflate (lb) (8. 0g) and propylamine hydrochloride (15. 8g) in pyridine (120mL) was heated at reflux for 4 hours. The solvent was evaporated and the mixture dissolved in 0. 05M hydrochloric acid (600mL) and washed with dichloromethane. The mixture was basified with 40% sodium hydroxide and extracted with dichloromethane. The extracts were dried, evaporated and chromatographed on silica gel (2-5% methanol in dichloromethane) to give an orange solid (3.6g, 63%). 8H (CDC13, 250MHz), 8.39 (1H, d, ), 8.09 (1H, d,), 7.08 (1H, d, ), 6.71 (1H, d, ), 5.25 (2H, brs), 4.05 (3H, s). MS (+ve ion electrospray) m/z: 176 (MH+).
