Step 4: preparation of 1-benzhydryl-3-hydrazinylazetidine. To a solution of tertbutyl 2-[1 -(diphenylmethyl)azetidin-3-yl]hydrazinecarboxylate (19.3 g, 54.6 mmol) in dioxane (633 mL) at 0°C was slowly added 4M hydrochloric acid in dioxane (290 mL). The reaction was allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 4 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo, and the resulting residue was purified via trituration with diethylether, affording the hydrochloride salt of the title compound as a white solid (16.5 g,>99%).
