The intermediate 9-b (98 g, 645 mmol) was dissolved in CH2C12 (1100 mL). The mixture was cooled to 0-5°C. PBr3 (64 mL, 674 mmol) was added dropwise at 0-5°C. After addition, the mixture was allowed to warm to 25°C and stirred for 15 hours. The mixture was poured into ice-water. The separated organic layer was washed with brine (2 X 500 mL), dried over Na2S04, filtered and evaporated under vacuum. The product 9-c was obtained (84.5 g, 80%).
