Yield:23135-16-2 100%

Reaction Conditions:

with bromine in chloroform at 0;Inert atmosphere;

Steps:

General Procedure C: Synthesis of Dibromides

General procedure: To an oven dried 10 mL round-bottomed flask charged with 4-methylstyrene (224.5 mg, 1.9mmol, 1 equiv) and CHCl3 (1 mL, 1.9 M) was added bromine (110 μL, 2.15 mmol, 1.15equiv) dropwise under N2 at 0 °C. The reaction was allowed to reach room temperaturebefore being diluted with CH2Cl2 (5 mL) and washed with saturated aqueous sodium bisulfitesolution (10 mL). The organics were passed through a hydrophobic frit and concentrated toafford (1,2-dibromoethyl)toluene as an off white solid (528.2 mg, quant.).
