Steps:

3 l-Methyl-4-(2-methyl-4-nitrophenyl)piperazine (SG4-035)

l-Methyl-4-(2-methyl-4-nitrophenyl)piperazine (SG4-035): 2-Fluoro-5-nitrotoluene (1.00 g, 6.45 mmol) and 1 -methylpiperazine (2.15 mL, 19.34 mmol) placed in a 5 mL microwave vial then stirred and heated at reflux. Water (10 mL) was added and the precipitates were filtered, washed with water (3 x 5 mL), and air-dried to provide the title compound as a yellow solid (1.518 g, 99%). NMR (400 MHz, CDCb) δ: 8.07-8.00 (m, 2H), 7.00 (d, J= 9.1 Hz, 1H), 3.12-3.04 (m, 4H), 2.63 (brs, 4H), 2.40 (s, 3H), 2.36 (s, 3H). HPLC-MS (ESI+): m/z 236.2 [100%, (M+H)⁺].
