Steps:
1 4-Methyl-N'-(1-phenylpropylidene)benzenesulfonohydrazide
To a solution of p-toluenesulfonylhydrazide (1.40 g, 7.52 mmol, 1.0 eq) in methanol (7.5 mL) at 60° C., propiophenone (1.00 mL, 7.52 mmol, 1.0 eq) was slowly added.
The mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 4 h, then cooled to room temperature.
The solvent was evaporated, and the solids were washed with Et2O and hexanes to provide the tosyl hydrazone (1.98 g, >99% purity, 87% yield) as a white solid.
