Into a 100-mL 3-necked round-bottom flask, was placed AlCl3 (4.29 g, 32.18 mmol, 2.00 equiv), DCM (30.00 mL). This was followed by the addition of a solution of 3-phenyl-3-(2,2,2- trifluoroacetamido)propanoyl chloride (4.5 g, 16.09 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in DCM (20 mL) dropwise with stirring at 0 °C. The resulting solution was stirred for 12 hr at 40 °C. The reaction mixture was cooled to 25 °C. The solids were filtered out. The mixture was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was applied onto a silica gel column with EtOAc/PE (1/2). This resulted in 3.4 g (87%) of 2,2,2-trifluoro-N-(3-oxo-1,2-dihydroinden-1-yl)acetamide as a white solid. LC-MS (ES, m/z): [M+H]+=244
