General Procedure M; Preparation of Compound 4b; Still referring to FIG. 6, compound 4a (5.0 g, 19.0 mmol) was dissolved in 40 mL dry acetone, sodium iodide (4.65 g, 31.0 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature under argon. The resulting solids were filtered and washed with diethyl ether. The filtrate was concentrated to a viscous oil which was diluted with 150 mL diethyl ether, washed 2× with H2O and 1× with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to a clear colorless oil 4b (5.86 g, 99%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3, δ): 3.1 (t, 2H), 1.8 (m, 2H), 1.4 (m, 2H), 1.2 (s, 12H), 0.7 (t, 2H).
