4.3. Alkyl 2-[acetoxy(aryl)methyl]acrylates 3 (general procedure)

General procedure: Acetylchloride (23 mmol, 1.81 g) was added dropwise to a mixture of alkyl 2-[hydroxy(aryl)methyl]acrylates 2 (20 mmol) and pyridine (23 mmol, 1.82 g) in dry CH₂Cl₂ (10 mL) at 0-5 °C. The resulting solution was warmed to room temperature within 1 h. After stirring overnight, the mixture was diluted with CH₂Cl₂ (70 mL), treated with 2 M HCl (100 mL), and washed with H₂O (100 mL). After drying over anhydrous Na₂SO₄, the mixture was filtered and the organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure. In most cases, the crude product 3 was used in the next step without further purification.
