Preparation of intermediate Y A mixture of 4-bromophenylsulfur pentafluoride (CAS [774-93-6] 4 g, 14.1 mmol), bis(pinacolato)diboron (CAS [73183-34-3], 4.30 g, 16.9 mmol), potassium acetate (2.80 g, 28.5 mmol) and Pd(dppf)₂Cl₂ (0.946 g, 1.29 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (50 mL) was stirred at 100°C for 16 hours. Ethyl acetate (200 ml) was added and the mixture was washed with water (100 mL) and brine (100 mL). The separated organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by column chromatography over silica gel (eluent: petroleum ether/ethyl acetate 10/1) to give intermediate Y (4.60 g, yield: 89%).
