Steps:

General procedure for five-membered cyclic carbonate

General procedure: Methyltriphenylphosphonium iodide (20.2 mg, 0.05 mmol) was added to a solution of epoxide (1 mmol) in 1-methoxy-2-propanol (0.2 mL). The atmosphere inside the flask was replaced with CO₂ (balloon, ca. 1 atm), and the reaction mixture was stirred at 25 or 45 °C. After 24-48 h, the mixture was cooled to rt, and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: CHCl₃) to give the corresponding cyclic carbonate (91-99%).
