Steps:
2-Aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones 3 and 6-8
General procedure: AgOTf (26 mg, 10 mol%) was added to a solution of an o-aminoacetophenone (1.0 mmol) and an aryl aldehyde (1.2 mmol) in MeOH (5mL) at r.t. The reaction mixture was stirred under reflux for 12-24 h. After the reaction was complete, as indicated by TLC, the excess solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexanes-EtOAc, 20:1) to yield the desired product.
