A mixture of benzyl (3S,5R)-3-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]-5-(trifluoromethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (3.86 g, 9.59 mmol) in MeOH (50 mL) was hydrogenated in the presence of 10% Pd on carbon (0.30 g) under 25 psi of hydrogen for 2 h. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the sub-title compound (2.6 g, 100%). LCMS calc. for C₁₁H₂₀F₃N₂O₂(M+H)⁺: m/z=269.1. found: 269.2
