Steps:

2.1.1. Synthesis of 4-Oxo-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylate derivatives (Compound 1-3)

General procedure: Corresponding malonate derivative (1 equivalent) and POCl 3 (8.2 ml, 87.7 mmoles) were heated in a sealed tube at 150 °C for about 3 hours. After cooling the excess of POCl 3 was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. To the resulting mixture dichloromethane (DCM) was added and washed several times with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10%) to remove the traces of POCl 3. The organic layers was extracted twice with the DCM and dried over Na 2 SO 4, then concentrated under reduced pressure to give crude compounds ( 1-3 ).
