36 Synthesis of 5-amino-1,2-dimethylimidazole
In 1,4-dioxane (5 mL) solution of 1,2-dimethyl-5-nitroimidazole (0.300 g, 2.13 mmol), 10% palladium carbon (60 mg) was added under ice-cooling and argon gas atmosphere, reaction mixture was stirred under a room temperature and hydrogen gas atmosphere(balloon) overnight. The insoluble material was washed with 1,4-dioxane and filtered with the cerite pad. The filtrate and the washings ere combined to about 3 mL under reduced pressure. n-hexane was added to the residue, washed, filtered, and dried in vacuum to obtain title compound (an ocher solid, 0.180 g, 1.62 mmol, 76%) .
