A. Indene-2-carboxylic acid Indene (29.0g) is added to a solution of chlorosulfonylisocyanate (35.4g) in ether (75ml) with mechanical stirring. The mixture is vigorously stirred for 1 hour. The solid product is collected and washed with 1:1 ether/cyclohexane to give 48.2g of material, melting point 85°-88° C.
