Example 4. Preparation of 1- (2 -AMINO-5 -METHYLPHENOXY)-2- (2"-AMINOPHENOXY) ethane (9). Compound 8 (24.0 g, 75 mmol) was hydrogenated over 10% Pd/C (1.5 G) in DMF (250 mL) at 40 psi for 18 h. The mixture was filtered from catalyst through a CELITE pad on a fritted glass filter. The filtrate was evaporated and ether (50 mL) was added. The product was filtered, washed with ether and dried to give compound 9,18. 0 g (95%) as a brown solid.
