243db was prepared in situ by the chlorination of 1243zf and dehydrochlorinated to 1233xf as set out below. 4.0 g of activated carbon catalyst was loaded into a 1.25 cm (0.5") x 30 cm lnconel reactor tube. The catalyst was dried under flowing nitrogen (c.a. 30 ml/min) at 250 ⁰C for 1.5 hours. The tube was then cooled to the reaction temperatures shown in the Table below prior to starting the feed flows nitrogen (0 or 8 ml/min), chlorine (8 ml/min) and 1243zf (8 ml/min). Samples of the reaction gases exiting the reactor zone were taken and analysed by GC and GC-MS.
