109.2 mg (1 mmol) of o-aminophenol and 151.1 mg (1 mmol) of m-nitrobenzaldehyde were dissolved in 3 mL of xylene and heated to 120 ° C for 1 hour with heating. The temperature was lowered to room temperature, and 52 mg (0.20 mmol) of copper acetylacetonate was added. The mixture was evacuated under reduced pressure and reacted in an oxygen atmosphere. The reaction was completed by TLC and the reaction was concentrated. Purification by column chromatography gave 237.8 mg of 2-(3-nitrophenyl)benzoxazole in a yield of 99.0%.
