In a nitrogen-protected flask, 50.1 g of isobutyryl chloride and 5.63 g of magnesium powder were placed in 25 ml of DMF solvent, and the system was purged with nitrogen, and the reaction was heated and stirred at 90 degrees Celsius for 6 hours. The reaction was completely detected by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) (molybdate formation). After removing and recycling all the solvent by rotary evaporation, the residue was extracted with a small amount of hexane-ethyl acetate and then was subjected to silica gel column chromatography to obtain 27.9 g of 2,5-dimethylhexane-3,4-dione product ( 84.7% yield).
