9.1 Step 1: Example 9b

A mixture of Example 9a (5.0 g, 32.6 mmol), sulfuryl dichloride (13.2 g, 97.7 mmol) in AcOH (50 mL) was heated to 90°C for 3 h under an inert atmosphere. This mixture was poured into H₂0, filtered, and the filter cake was washed with H₂0 twice, which was then dissolved in EtOAc, dried over Na₂S0₄ and concentrated to give Example 9b (6.5 g, yield 90%) as a white solid. LCMS [M-l] = 219.9/221.9. NME (400 MHz, DMSO-r ₆) d 8.04 (s, 1H), 2.46 (s, 3H).
