Example A2Preparation of intermediate 2: rac-2-amino-2-(3-bromo-phenyl)-propionic acidIntermediate 1 (26 g, 115.5 mmol) was dissolved in 6N HC1 (139 mL) and the mixture was refluxed for 18 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the solvents were evaporated in vacuo to yield intermediate 2 (24 g, 85% yield) that was used in the next step without further purification.
