Steps:

2.2.9. Common procedure for the α-alkylation of ketone reactions
General procedure: Ketones (1 mmol), alcohols (1 mmol), catalyst 1 (0.5 mol %), NaOH(5 mol %) and toluene (2 mL) were added into a round bottom flaskunder air atmosphere. The reaction mixture was stirred with reflux inan oil bath at 105 °C for 8 h. The progress of the reaction was monitoredby TLC. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture wascooled to room temperature. The catalyst was separated by addition ofdichloromethane and petroleum ether solvents mixture (1:1 v/v,10 mL) followed by filtration through celite. The filtrate was concentratedunder reduced pressure and the resulting crude product waspurified by column chromatography over silica gel (100-200 mesh)using eluents petroleum ether and ethyl acetate (95:5, v/v) to afford thecorresponding ketone. The resulting products were identified by comparisonof the 1H & 13C NMR data of previous reports.
