Steps:

Tetrahydropyranylation:

In a 25 mL RB ask, 15 mmol of n-butanol, 16.5 mmol of 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran (DHP), 1.0 mmol of [Al(H2O)6][MS]3 or 0.5 mmol of Al2(-OH)(MS)5, and 10 mLof dichloromethane were charged. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 45 min.The catalyst was insoluble in the mixture and can be separated by decantation for reuse.
