6 Preparation of 2-chloro-2-methylpropanal from trimer 2,4,6-tris(2-chloropropan2-yl)-l,3,5-trioxane (Depolymerisation)
Solid trimer 2,4,6-tris(2-chloropropan2-yl)-l,3,5-trioxane obtained as described in example 5 was depolymerised in the presence of an acid catalyst, and toluene to provide 2-chloro-2- methylpropanal. Various acid catalysts (sulfuric acid, methanesulfonic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, Montmorillonite K10 (CAS Number: 1318-93-0)) were tested with satisfactory outcome with a typical purity of 90%-91% of 2-chloro-2-methylpropanal.
