170 Intermediate 170A: (2-chloro-3-methylpyridin-4-yl)methanol
To a solution of methyl 2-chloro-3-methylpyridine-4-carboxylate (0.157 g, 0.846 mmol) in THF (1.5 mL) was added sodium borohydride (0.096 g, 2.54 mmol) followed by MeOH (0.6 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. Water was added to quench the reaction. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in EtOAc and washed by brine. The solvent was evaporated to give (2-chloro-3-methylpyridin-4-yl)methanol (0.12 g, 90% yield). MS (ES): m/z = 158.1 [M+H]+.1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.23 (d, J=4.8 Hz, 1H), 7.45 (d, J=4.8 Hz, 1H), 5.52 (t, J=5.4 Hz, 1H), 4.59-4.53 (m, 2H), 2.25 (s, 3H).
