To a stirred solution of 2,4-dichloroquinazoline (Preparation 23a, 2.0 g, 10.0 mmol) in methanol (100 mL) was added a 5M solution of sodium methoxide in methanol (2.1 mL, 10.5 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 48 hours. The solvent was evaporated and the mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic phase was dried (MgS04) and evaporated to give the title compound (1.87 g, 96%) as a solid.LRMS (m/z): 195 (M+1)+/-.H-NMR δ (CDCI3): 4.23 (s, 3H), 7.57 (ddd, 1 H), 7.88 - 7.84 (m, 2H), 8.17 - 8.11(m, 1 H).
