[00185] Step A: 2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzoic acid (2.00 g, 11.5 mmol) was dissolved in sulfuric acid (20 mL) and cooled to 0°C. Nitric acid (0.529 mL, 12.6 mmol) was added, and the reaction mixture was warmed to room temperature for one hour. The reaction mixture was diluted with water, and the aqueous portion was extracted with DCM (3 X), dried over Na₂SO₄, concentrated to a solid, 2-chloro-6-fluoro-3-nitrobenzoic acid (97%), which was used directly in the next step without further purification.
