Intermediate 58; Ethyl)-3-aminohept-2-enoate; Ethyl 3-oxoheptanoate (8.28 g, 48.13 mmol) and ammonium acetate (18.55 g, 240 mmol) were stirred in ethanol (80 ml) at room temperature for 96 hours. The solvent was evaporated and the residue stirred in dichloromethane (100 ml) for 30 minutes. The solid formed was filtered and the filtrate was washed with water (50 ml), saturated brine (50 ml) and dried over MgSO4 filtered and evaporated to give ethyl 3-aminohept-2-enoate (7.8 g, 94%) as a pale yellow oil.1H NMR (300.072 MHz, CDCl3) δ 0.90 (3H, t), 1.19-1.29 (3H, m), 1.31-1.38 (2H, m), 1.47-1.57 (2H, m), 2.06-2.13 (2H, m), 4.09 (2H, q), 4.52 (1H, s)MS m/e (M+H)+172.
