Step 2. A mixture of 2-chloro-5-methyl-4-(thiophen-2-yl)pyrimidine A.3 (R2= Me, W-R1 = thiophen-2-yl, R3 = H, 96 mg , 0.457 mmol), anhydrous hydrazine (150 mg, 4.57 mmol) and pyridine (1 mL) was heated at 90 0C for 1 hour, At the completion of the reaction, the mixture was concentrated to give 94 mg (100%) of A.4 (R2 = Me, W-R1 = thiophen-2-yl, R3 = H), which was used directly in the next step.
