Intermediate 4-A: (2-Methoxy-6-methylphenyl)methanolTo a solution of methyl 2-methoxy-6-methylbenzoate (CAS 79383-44-1, 500 mg, 2.77 mmol) in THF (5 ml) at 0 °C was added LiAIH4 (211 mg, 5.55 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 0°C for 2h and then at room temperature for 15h. The reaction mixture was then diluted with THF, and then quenched with sodium sulfate decahydrate. The mixture was then stirred for 1 h, dried over Na2504, filtered, and then concentrated to furnish the title compound. MS (ESl+) m/z 135.0 (M-OH).
