To a suspension of benzyl 2-methoxycyclopropylcarbamate (4.3 g, 19.4 mmol) and palladium on charcoal (1.2 g) in methanol (300 ml) was added concentrated hydrochloric acid (6 ml), and the mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere (5-6 bar) at r.t. for 3 h. Activated carbon was added (1 g), the mixture was filtered, and the cake was washed with methanol (100 ml) and water (50 ml). The solution was concentrated to dryness to yield 2-methoxycyclopropanamine hydrochloride (2 g, 83 % yield).
