Steps:

2-Methyl-4-propoxybenzaldehyde was reacted with sodium borohydride to obtain (2-methyl-4-propoxyphenyl)methanol in 80% yield. ¹H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl₃) δ (ppm): 7.202-7.223(d, IH, J = 8Hz), 6.70-6.746 (t, 2H, J=8.4Hz), 4.626 (s, 2H), 3.892-3.925(t, 2H, J=6.8Hz), 2.357(s, 3H), 1.769-1.840(m, 2H), 1.011-1.047(t, 2H, J=7.6Hz).
