Yield:38965-47-8 71% ,1240522-04-6 18%

Reaction Conditions:

in methanol at 60; for 2.5 h;

Steps:

7.17.1

l-Methyl-3-(pyridin-4-yl)-lH-pyrazol-5-amine (17.B) and l-methyl-5-(pyridin-4-yl)-lH-pyrazol-3-amine (17.C). To a rt solution of 3-oxo-3- phenylpropanenitrile (available from Biofine International Inc.) (400 mg, 2.76 mmol) in MeOH (7 rnL) was added methylhydrazine (367 μl, 6.89 μmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at 60 0C for 2.5 hr. After removal of organic solvent under reduced pressure, the residue was re-dissolved in 30% 'PrOH/chloroform. The solution was washed with brine, and dried over MgSO4. After removal of organic solvent under reduced pressure, purification of the residue by flash chromatography on silica gel using 0-20% MeOHZCH2Cl2 for elution gave the title product 17.B (341 mg, 71%) and 17.C(86 mg, 18%) as white solids.
