170 g of epichlorohydrin having a turbidity of 0.05 ppm in 30% by mass methanol solution, 30 g of water, 5 g of methanol and 0.15 g of 32% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution were charged, and while stirring, 35 g of hydrogen sulfide was added at a liquid temperature of 5 to 15 ° C., bis (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) sulfide was obtained. Subsequently, the above bis (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) sulfide was added dropwise to a reaction tank containing 410 g of toluene and 230 g of 32% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution while keeping the liquid temperature at 0 to 10 ° C. After completion, the organic layer was extracted, washed three times with 180 g of water, and the solvent was distilled off to obtain 120 g of bis (β-epoxypropyl) sulfide. The obtained bis (β-epoxypropyl) sulfide was stored in a glass bottle at 25 ° C. under a nitrogen atmosphere, and the turbidity was measured at 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days. The results are shown in Table 1.
