To a solution of 2-phenylthiomorpholin-3-one (1 eq., 2.5 g, 12.94 mmol, 1 eq.) in THF (45 mL) was added at 0 °C, DIBAL-H 1N in toluene (4 eq., 51.8 mL, 51.74 mmol, 4 eq.). The mixture was stirred at 80 °C for 5 h. EA (5 mL), water (20 mL) and an aqueous solution of tartrate de sodium and potassium 1N (50 mL) were added. The aqueous layer was extracted with EA (3 x 50 mL). The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford the crude mixture as a colorless oil. The resulting residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel using dichloromethane:methanol (100:0 to 95:5) as the eluent to afford C23-2 (1.37 g, 7.63 mmol, 59%) as a yellow solid. LCMS: m/z calcd C10H13NS 179.28, found 180.0 [M+H]+.
